Testimonials

I’m far from alone.

My mothers worsening dementia created a dilemma. My mother was in the Los Angeles area, and I lived in Merida. My mother’s needs were such that she required an assisted living facility with a memory care unit, which we found at Mérida Health Care in Dzityá. She is now near me, in good hands and thriving.

They get her manicures, pedicures and haircuts. She’s as happy as can be possible. She just fits there.

The staff speaks English, and the other residents comprise a mix of nationals and people from her home country. She has a private room that faces a garden. Social Security covers enough of the costs that the facility is affordable, including medicine and physical therapy.

It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, honestly, it’s the best. I feel it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Why we need special places like this.

My brother, a U.S. citizen, came to live in Mexico some 20 years ago after living in the United States his entire life.  His wife, a Mexican citizen, wanted to live in her hometown, Queretaro.  So, they moved to Queretaro and built themselves a house.  Years passed, life brings changes, we grow older, sickness interrupts family life and death of a spouse can really change things…

Merida Health accepted my brother into their full-time residential care shortly before he turned 60.  It was a stressful time for him having lost his wife.  He was unable to cope with everyday living but because of the care offered, it allowed him to concentrate on just himself.  No worries about fixing meals, cleaning, paying bills, etc.  Their directors and staff managed every aspect of his healthcare.  They watched over him and monitored his condition adjusting medications as needed after consultations with a doctor.  It was determined that he was suffering early signs of dementia.

As my brother’s only sister, it was important to make sure the monthly expenses were covered in a timely manner.  And Shelly and Juan, the directors, worked with me each month.  I was able to forward the appropriate funds from the U.S. to Merida.

The level of care for my brother was outstanding and very personalized.  Communication with my brother was very easy with phone calls.  Birthdays and major holidays were always observed and enjoyed.

The most important aspect of my brother’s time at Merida Healthcare was knowing that he was in a safe environment and living with people that he trusted and that I trusted.  I will always be grateful for the care he received even until his passing this year at the residence.
